Tribune Endorses Shirley Mosczynski

Town Committee
April 26th, 2007

The Blackstone Valley Tribune has officially endorsed Shirley Mosczynski for re-election to the Douglas Board of Selectmen.

Two quotes from the endorsement:

When voters in this fast-growing beauty of a town head to the polls May 8, we heartily encourage them to give Mosczynski the chance to lead their community into the future by reelecting her to a fourth three-year term on the board.

Moreover, her institutional knowledge of local government, acquired during decades of public service, is an asset that should be highly valued by Douglas residents. Such experience is priceless.

We encourage you to read the April 25, 2007 edition of the Tribune, which includes great interviews with Shirley Mosczynski and Pam Holmes. You’ll also find a fantastic supportive letter to the editor from Charlotte Coppola.

November 8th, 2006

Election_2006_11_07_IMG_1994
Yesterday the Democrats of Douglas manned the corner of Main and Depot Streets supporting our state candidates. State Senator Richard Moore stopped by to share the excitement as we supported his re-election campaign along with that of Governor-elect Deval Patrick. We’re also very happy about the re-election of State Representative Paul Kujawski, Senator Ted Kennedy, Congressman Richard Neal, and the rest of the Democratic slate. In addition to the Governor-elect we’re very excited to see Martha Coakley elected as the state’s Attorney General.

Special thanks goes out to Margaret and Chris Reed for hosting the election-eve celebration party.

Thanks everyone for all the hard work!

Brouillette earns leadership award

Town Committee
May 23rd, 2006

Douglas Selectman Paula Brouillette has earned a major award from the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission for her work with the Four Town Group. More info from the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, Friday, May 19, 2006:

Paula-1Ms. Brouillette, a graduate of the commission’s Leadership Blackstone Valley Program, was honored for her work with the Four Town Group, a coalition of town officials from Sutton, Douglas, Uxbridge and Northbridge who meet regularly to discuss a regional approach to various issues.

Ms. Brouillette also spearheaded a spinoff of the Four Town Group that looks at the specific area off Route 146 near the Lackey Dam Road exit where all four towns come together.

The group’s mission has been to come up with a collective master plan for the border area that could lead to improved infrastructure, synthesized zoning and, ultimately, economic development. With the help of a grant from the commission, the group this year hired a consultant to help them through the process.

Ms. Brouillette said working with the Four Town Group has been a pleasant experience, and praised the commission for its efforts at creating networks of leaders in the area. She said the Four Town Group has made progress merely by continuing to exist.

“We’ve been working over three years now,” Ms. Brouillette said. “That’s quite an accomplishment.”

Ms. Brouillette is also a member of the Corridor Keepers, a local group that is pushing for an extension of the legislative authority of the corridor commission.

Founded on Nov. 10, 1986, the Corridor Commission is a federally funded arm of the Department of the Interior. It brings public and private agencies together to promote economic development, historic preservation and environmental protection.
