Octoberfest - Behind the Scenes
My name is Dave St. George and I’m a member of the Octoberfest committee. I joined the committee two years ago. As a town resident, I had attended the Fest for many years. It was obvious that the committee needed more people to help out and I enjoy being a worked for a good cause. The Committee, headed by Tony and Mary St. Pierre, welcomed me with open arms. As with any short handed committee you are given an assignment right off the bat. Mine was to be in charge of the morning Parade. Then I learned that there are many other duties that the whole committee takes part in. Being semi-retired I was able to do a lot of the running around which I didn’t mind doing. This is my second year and I still enjoy it.
The Octoberfest serves the community in many ways. It brings everyone together to enjoy a family day and to partake in the many actives during the day like games, hay ride and all sorts of food to fill that void in your lower abdomen. In addition to all of this, the committee gives back to the community and various originations in town by monetary donations. Last year we donated over $3,000.00.
Unlike some political committees, there isn’t any political swaying here so if you like the feeling of providing something for the community, then think about joining the Octoberfest Committee. I think you will have a warm feeling all over after the event knowing that so many people had such a great time for so little money and you had something to do with it.
If you are interested in joining, you can contact me or any one of the committee members.
